Have you ever felt like God is somewhere out there, and it seems like He’s a million miles away? But then you take a moment to whisper His name, or lift your hands and heart heavenward, and in an instant, you know the overwhelming truth that He is closer than the air you breathe?
God inhabiting our praise is one of the profound mysteries of the Christian faith—the power and presence of God are revealed through worship. Think about that for a moment. When life is stressing you out, the power and presence of God are waiting to invade your life, if you would just take a moment and raise a hallelujah. When we worship, we’re declaring the truth of God’s Word, allowing it to take root deep in our hearts and transform our lives and our moments.
I remember many times feeling overwhelmed during a specific season of life, wondering how I was going to make it through. In those moments of desperation, I quietly said the name of Jesus. It was as if the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders, and for a brief second, I stopped wallowing in my own thoughts and worries. In return, I received what Isaiah describes in Isaiah 61:3: “…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”
He added His supernatural to my natural, and the result was an attitude shift, along with a physical, emotional, and spiritual lift. That’s a pretty good deal.
Worship is for God because He is worthy, but we also benefit by ceasing to think about ourselves and instead focusing on what really matters in life—Him.
A word that has been on my mind recently is frivolous. So much of life, especially on social media, is consumed by the insignificant. In fact, we can spend countless hours scrolling through our feeds, watching dogs jump through hoops or complete strangers apply makeup while chatting about something else.
Never before have we been tempted to spend so much time on things that are ultimately meaningless. It actually robs us of deep, meaningful living. In a frivolous world, God has called us to something beautiful. He has called you to a life steeped in worth and purpose—a life of significance that brings HEAVEN TO EARTH—and it starts with a desire to live as a worshiper.
Every person is created to worship. Think of the story of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:22, when Judah faced an overwhelming enemy. The Bible says, “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.” What an unexpected strategy—but God fought the battle for them through their worship! Worship isn’t just about lifting our voices; it’s a spiritual act that taps into the unseen power of God.
It’s easy to know you should stop worrying, stop being proud, stop being distracted, or stop living in insecurity. But it’s far more effective to begin worshiping.
When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we realize that God is already at work, breaking the grip of these destructive tendencies that come from the flesh.
Worship is both an admission of our weakness and a declaration of God’s strength. The next time you face a battle, I challenge you to choose worship. Let the breakthrough power of God fight on your behalf.
When we worship, God moves in invisible ways. We are realigned, refreshed, and refueled. In His presence, we find unspeakable joy and peace that passes understanding. Worship unlocks the power of God and enables us to walk in His truth, live in His presence, and see Him fight our battles. It’s how we put the beauty of the Gospel on display, receive His blessings, and become a blessing to the world.
